Drug Take Back event to be held in Highlands Ranch Oct. 23

September 27, 2021

On Saturday, October 23 the public will have the opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at the National Prescription Drug Take-Back event. Bring your prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal. The Take-Back event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Highlands Ranch Substation, 9250 Zotos Dr.

Centennial Water & Sanitation District is partnering with the Highlands Ranch Metro District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and DEA to host the event in Highlands Ranch.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet

The DEA’s efforts bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical substance abuse, while providing a secure and environmentally-friendly outlet for disposal that will protect our water resources.
